Briggs wills in New York

JAMES BRIGGS
Of Collard Barrack, in the Manor of Cortlandt, in Westchester County. I leave
to my wife 1/3 of all my real and personal estate. I leave to my daughters,
Catharine HUISTEN and Margaret HOIT, £10 each, and the same to my
daughters Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth, Eunice, and Miriam. I leave to my eldest son,
Gabriel, 1/3 of all estate, and to my son Jonathan 1/3. After my wife's
decease my two sons are to have all the land, and the cash to all my children.
I make my wife and my friends, Solomon HAYNES and Gabriel LYNCH, executors.

THOMAS BRIGGS
Dated April 5, 1782. I, Thomas BRIGGS, of Dutchess County, being weak in body.
I leave to my wife Elizabeth the two fether beds and furniture with all the
other household goods that she brought me at our marriage free and clear
forever, also one room in my now dwelling house which she shall chuse, one
good cow, to be well kept with fire wood and all other necessaries of life
sufficient for her reputable maintenance in sickness and in health during her
widowhood and no longer, and if she chuse not to accept of the aforesaid
provisions but should remove from this place, then she shall have the goods
she brought me and £100 to be paid at her removal. To my son Nathaniel
£40. To my daughter, Comfort Gay, one looking glass, one good fether bed
and furniture on high case of draws which was her mothers, one round table
and £10. To my son William ten shillings. To my son Thomas my homesteed
and my farm on the mountain and my farm on the oblong where my son now lives with
all my live stock, and farming utensils free and clear. To my granddaughter,
Amy Briggs, daughte of William Briggs, one high case of draws, one righting
desk, and one good feather bed and its furniture. All my waring apparel to
my sons, William and Thomas. My money, bonds and notes to my son, Thomas Briggs.
The remainder of my estate to all my children equally divided. Lastly I
appoint my trusty and well beloved son, Thomas Briggs, my excutor.
