Ancestry.com shows a Pol Mertlik (with a wife Victoria) applying for citizenship in Dutchess County on 22 Sept 1914. Birthday shows 23 April 1882 and he was from Battousy, Hungary

"Poughkeepsie NY Daily Eagle" states on 19 Apr 1930, page 12 that Paul is involved in a case against Charles Markantes (?sp)
"Amenia NY Harlem NY Valley Times 1943 - 1945" states on 29 Sept 1938, Anna Mertlik's 2nd degree grand larceny complaint against Joseph VASKO is sentenced to 2 years probation.
"Amenia NY Harlem NY Valley Times 1943 - 1945" states on May, page 2, that Paul is awarded $6,500 from Charles Markantes (a banana wholesaler) for injuries received in an auto accident in Fishkill.
"Poughkeepsie NY Daily Eagle" states on 25 Apr 1930, front page, Paul is awarded $6,500 from Charles Markantes (a banana wholesaler) for injuries received in an auto accident in Fishkill.
"Poughkeepsie NY Daily Eagle" states on 1 Sept 1925, page 2, Paul exhibits Aster flowers.
"Rhinebeck Gazette" states on 27 Oct 1933, that Paul visits friends in: Long Island, Brooklyn, Jersey City and he visited the Sunnyside Farm in Westwood, NJ where he was a manager for George Schlagel, Sr of Brooklyn.
According to "The Country Gentleman, Volume 74", the Sunnyside Farm could have been a poultry farm.

21 Sept 1909 from Balonya, Hungary and leaving Bremen port on the ship Grosser Kurfurst. He is 28 years old.
30 Apr 1907 from Battanya, Hungary and leaving Bremen port on the ship Friederich der Grosse. He is 24 years old.
Both entries say he is married but he is not traveling with anyone according to the Ship Manifest

In 1930 Census Federal Census, he is living in Clinton, Dutchess Co., NY with wife Anna and children: Joseph ( a 7), Paul (a 3), Mary (a 0), and Boarder Herman ROLFES (a 68). [Per "The Rhinebeck Gazette", from 29 May 1946, Herman died 18 May 1946 and was buried in the Rhinebeck Cemetery.]
